Indigenous Resource Network applauds historic agreement with Blueberry River First Nation and BC

“The Indigenous Resource Network centrally concerned with advocating responsible resource development for Indigenous communities across Canada and that means working together with government and industry” said John Desjarlais, Board Chair of the Indigenous Resource Network (IRN).

Earlier today the province of BC and Blueberry River First Nation Chief Judy Desjarlais announced a historic agreement on a path forward for responsible resource development in the province of BC. This comes after months of negotiations with the province on how to work towards responsible resource development.

“The Indigenous Resource Network centrally concerned with advocating responsible resource development for Indigenous communities across Canada and that means working together with government and industry” said John Desjarlais, Board Chair of the Indigenous Resource Network (IRN). John continued saying “we support this historic agreement and are encouraged by this approach of balancing protection of Indigenous rights and territory, and meaningfully respecting a Nations pursuit of economic development for the region.”

During the signing ceremony Chief Judy Desjarlais stated “we are truly witnessing a historic moment. First Nations will be participants in all stages of development. Blueberry now has a say every step of the way.”

The IRN is honoured to have Chief Judy Desjarlais as a board member of the IRN and are proud of the work she and Blueberry River has accomplished on this historic day.
